The bow tie ( familiarly: bow-tie ) is the shape of tie primarily used by the men.
Tie or bow tie ? Is this year, the tie preferred with the bow tie ?
Nothing is simple any more.
The bow ties to be tied are made same manner that nodes of lavallière of which we give description in the bond which follows :

As you can note it, the node is completely commonplace to make. However
the majority of the bow ties, especially those of evening, is sold tied…
Caution: at the end of the operation, the width of the node must be
about equivalent to the distance between your eyes. As regards the height,
it is a question of taste. Avoid as usual the extremes: a bow tie runs
too large and a too fine long node…
The bow tie is obligatory with smoking (black butterfly) and with a dress (white butterfly). Apart from that, the butterfly is a node of interior: one can carry it at home, or to the countryside (a butterfly goes very well with a velvet or tweed jacket). In day and downtown, to carry the butterfly is a mark of imagination and independence of mind. The butterfly is the prerogative of the artistic professions and the teachers
The lavallière is a derivative of the butterfly. It ties same
manner, but with a scarf, and the wings of the node must form two hulls
falling down. The lavallière, very appraisal by the students,
the painters and the literary men with XIXe S., are rare nowadays. A
scarf for lavallière is rather difficult to find.
